Beaches

Grotto Beach – a local beach in Hermanus that has the perfect facilities for the family to swim and enjoy (15-minute drive)

Onrus Beach – adjacent to a warm, calm lagoon ideal for family outings (10-minute drive).

Voelklip Beach – A beach popular among young adults, especially during peak season. Refreshments are readily available and is a prime surfing spot too (15-minute drive).

 

Hermanus Seaside Village

Located between the two lagoons, Botrivier Lagoon and Kleinrivier Lagoon is a mini lagoon in the middle. On this land, there are various settlements, and different people living harmoniously at the heart of the Cape Whale Coast.

Hermanus offers something for everyone, if you prefer adrenaline rush activities, arts and culture or you’re a foodie looking for a good spot to eat good food.

If you’re looking to do fun-filled activities for families groups and or individuals. The area is home to adrenaline activities and exciting adventures.

 

Land-based activities:

Mountain biking – These offer riders the chance to experience valley views and exhilaration all at once. Routes vary in difficulty, from more advanced to least advanced.

Abseiling – experience a thrill coming down the mountains with breathtaking surroundings. The guides will let you know of the ideal spots and assist you with the best spots with the right equipment for the job.

Sandboarding – is a thrilling activity for adrenaline junkies. It’s not very common yet, but it’s becoming a popular holiday must-do for those seeking excitement. Hermanus has high dunes perfect to snowboard down. No experience is needed and relatively fun to do with families.

Water-based activities:

Kite surfing – If you’re looking to learn how to surf during your holiday away, Walker Bay has a surfing school that can do the trick. With a minimum of 6 hours, you’ll be ready to kiteboard safely.

Shark cage diving – Experience a thrill like no other and dive into the waters of Walker Bay with the sharks. While an adrenaline-pumping experience it is, the activity is safe and well-precautioned. Get up close and personal with one of nature’s most fascinating predators.

 

Whale Watching

Hermanus is well known for its great views and experiences when it comes to whale watching. From June to November the Southern Right Whales move from the icy waters of the Atlantic to the warmer waters in Mozambique. They pass through the cape and have made Hermanus one of the most sought-after places to whale watch.

The Old Harbour Museum

Home to many fishing and whale exhibits. There are requests put in for talks from locals about the inter-tidal zones and interesting facts about them.

Whale Museum

They host daily audio-visual presentations from 10:00 to 15:00 where you are taken into the world of the Southern Right Whale.

Hermanus Story Walk

Guided walks through the quaint villages where you can learn about how the coastal town manifested into the attraction it is today.

 

Fernkloof Nature Reserve

The western cape in general is known for its outstanding fauna and floral landscapes. But Hermanus itself is a hot spot for finding some of the most beautiful diverse plant and bird species. Navigate the expansive area through their color-coded nature trail systems. This is a relaxing explorative experience for our more calm souls to enjoy.

Hemel-en-Aarde Valley

For our dear wine enthusiasts, you can find yourself indulging here. One of the places where wine tasting is made to feel like heaven on earth. The wine farms here grow exceptional quality grapes that lead to the quality of wine.

 

Markets

There are daily, weekly, monthly, and even seasonal markets you can visit when exploring the town. Hermanus has a country market that they hold weekly on a Saturday. You and the family can enjoy some live music, a selection of wines, Gins, coffees some arts and crafts and so much more. Feel the Hermanus spirit as you stroll through.
